What are the key ingredients of happy Independent travelling? We all have different Interests and personalities. For me, it is important to strike the right balance between planning and leaving room for the unexpected. Pre-travel research helps me structure the basic frame of the trip. so that I feel safe and with a sense of direction. But I don’t want to be so tied to my plans that I miss out on the surprises a destination may have in store for me. This is where Travel article Apps come in.
The benefit of travel article apps
For independent travellers, quality travel article apps are one of the most Precious tools to make the most of any trip. Here are the main reaons I love them:
- They are packed with information. There are normally a number of articles on the same destination, from a number of authors, so you get a broad perspective.
- They are lightweight and easy to carry with you– unlike physical guidebooks!
- They are great for special interests. The beauty of pulling together the expertise of different writers is that you will also find some very ‘specialised’ guides. Do you love medieval history? Or do you travel to discover food markets? The chances of finding an article that makes your trip really unique, and right for you, are much higher!
- They help you keep your plans flexible. Did you want to go hiking but the weather has taken a turn for the worse? You can re-design your day even at the last minute, when the rain hits your roof!

Since late spring, I have discovered a new trusted companion, GPSmyCity. I have used their articles extensively during my travels through southwest France, and they have made my trip so easy!

What is so good about GPSmyCity?
So what made GPSmyCity so special for me?
Firstly, the quality of their content. I love history and culture and the guides were fantastically rich!
And beyond that, its functionalities. If you enjoy a travel post, you can use the app to turn IT into a self-guided tour. After you have created it, you can use the tour offline, so you don’t need to stress about roaming charges.

Of course, it offers both an IOS and an Android version. To download it, just go to either the App Store and Google Play.

✅ Discover Parma: a Travel Guide to One of Italy’s Hidden Gems
There is more to Parma than Parmesan cheese. Discover a small city that packs as much beauty as Verona and as much art as Florence, without the crowds! Home to groundbreaking medieval architecture and sculpture, to the Renaissance masterpieces of Correggio, and to art collections worthy of a European capital Parma truly punches above its weight. My guide explores some of its masterpieces, without forgetting its incredible food.

✅ A Roman Gem in Spain: What to See in Zaragoza
Once Rome’s most glorious Spanish city, Zaragoza is still captivating to this day. Not many cities can boast 2 cathedrals! Ancient walls, Roman ruins, its magnificent stone bridge on the Ebro River, the largest plaza in Spain (and maybe even Europe!)… Do you need more reason to visit? Here is my guide to this true Spanish gem.

✅ Glorious Food and Glorious Culture. What to See in Bologna
Once a favoured stop on the Grand Tour, the capital of Emilia-Romagna is being rediscovered by tourists from all over the world. Its food is legendary, but Bologna also boasts UNESCO-Heritage architecture, such as its painted and sculpted porticoes, stunning churches and palaces. This guide shares some of my favourite Bologna attractions.
